Innovation’s impact begins with strong intellectual property protection. Led by Vincent Carbone, J.D., this session will guide faculty, students, and entrepreneurs through the patent landscape, highlighting Johns Hopkins’ support from technology transfer to commercialization. Seminar topics include: Defining what is/is not a patent, key principles of patent law, rights granted to inventors through patents, and how to secure a patent.

As an Intellectual Property Manager at JHTV, Vincent Carbone, J.D., evaluates technologies for patent protection, focusing on AI and machine learning. A registered patent attorney, he holds a J.D. from the University of Maryland and a B.S. from Tufts University, with experience in research, patent law, and commercialization
