Start your entrepreneurial journey with the Pava Marie LaPere Center for Entrepreneurship.

What is Kindling? The Kindling Pre-Accelerator at Johns Hopkins University is designed to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit in students who are eager to start their own ventures but are unsure where to begin. This program targets those in the earliest stages of venture development, providing them with the guidance and structure needed to turn their ideas into reality.

How does it work? Participants will be divided into four core teams including: Energy and Sustainability, Software and AI , Education and Consumer Products, and Life Sciences and Healthtech. Over the course of the semester, students will refine their venture ideas through targeted live customer discovery, validate the needs they uncover, and gain a strong foundation in the essential aspects of building a successful business. The Kindling Accelerator is not just about starting a company; it’s about discovering the right path and learning how to navigate it effectively.

Team formation: You will be grouped into in-person teams based on your interests. We ask that you rank all focus area categories early in the pre-accelerator process.

Deadline: September 12, 2025

This semester, we’re also offering the program on site at Peabody with a unique focus on big ideas and opportunities in the music, art, and performance space. Please note that Kindling is only open to Johns Hopkins affiliates, at this time.
