Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures is proud to announce the launch of the Zizic Translational Fund, a new resource designed to propel the university’s most promising discoveries from the lab to the marketplace. Named for Thomas M. Zizic, MD (SOM ’65) —renowned physician, visionary founder, and advocate for innovation and scientific excellence — the fund builds upon the strong foundation of JHTV’s existing translational programs and expands its reach across every school at the university.
Since 2014, translational funding at Johns Hopkins has catalyzed major advances in medicine, engineering, and beyond. Through investments of more than $4 million across more than 60 projects, the Thalheimer and Cohen translational funds have enabled trailblazing faculty to transform their innovations into real-world solutions, resulting in multiple licenses, start-ups, patents, and significant follow-on funding. The newly established Zizic Fund complements these achievements, further empowering innovators throughout Johns Hopkins to bring bold ideas to life.
Zizic is a deeply committed alumnus, having previously endowed the Thomas M. Zizic, M.D. Professorship in Rheumatology and Immunology at Johns Hopkins. This professorship ensures that future clinical rheumatologists can devote themselves to training, mentorship, and research, amplifying Zizic’s core values of excellence, compassion, and gratitude.
Zizic has already shaped the next generation of clinician-scientists, and his investment in translational funding enables Johns Hopkins researchers across all disciplines to deliver impactful solutions to the world’s most urgent challenges.
More details on the timing of the application cycle for all translational funding programs and eligibility will follow shortly.
