JHTV provides guidance for each collaboration including its design, implementation, and evolution. These collaborations are carefully constructed to maximize impact.
-
WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE PARTNERSHIP?
Research collaborations with Johns Hopkins involve a number of technology focus areas and take many forms, including master research agreements, individual sponsored projects, and clinical trials. Many collaborations also focus on education and training activities, leveraging Johns Hopkins student talent.
-
WHAT SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESEARCH & TRAINING SHOULD WE TARGET?
Once an initial plan is developed, potential collaborators are invited to meet with Johns Hopkins leadership and specific faculty. These meetings help to refine and confirm a productive path forward.
-
WHAT INVESTMENT AND DEAL TERMS MAKE SENSE?
The Corporate Partnerships team helps to finalize the project scope and establish collaboration terms. Large-scale research collaborations typically have three-to-five-year terms, but extensions may occur with mutual agreement between the industry collaborator and Johns Hopkins.
-
HOW CAN WE GET THE WORK GOING?
Our team facilitates the university contracting process and oversees the implementation of governance and alliance management structures. Often, an Alliance Management Team is dedicated to the implementation and support of the project.
-
IS THE PROJECT CREATING VALUE?
Our team remains involved through the life of a contract to ensure a successful collaboration, managing any troubleshooting, modifications, and scope changes.
-
IS THERE A TECHNOLOGY LICENSING OPPORTUNITY?
Several of our research collaborations have resulted in the development of commercialize-able technologies. Typically, the sponsoring entity will exercise its right to license the technology.
-
WHERE SHOULD THE COLLABORATION GROW NEXT?
JHTV takes a long-term view of these collaborations, which evolve and grow as companies' priorities change and as the research evolves. We help to manage transitions and pivot, where appropriate.
